Job Description: Reference Lab Results Coordinator

Reports To: Laboratory Manager

Summary:
The Reference Lab Results Coordinator is responsible for managing and ensuring that all patient test results from our reference lab(s) get uploaded to the patient charts in Orchard and in Athena in a timely manner. The Reference Lab Results Coordinator is responsible for keeping track of results and their timelines, as well as resolving any discrepancies with those tests directly with the corresponding reference lab. Although this position does not require direct patient interaction, it does require excellent customer service skills to create an atmosphere of trust and confidence with the contacts at the reference labs, as well as with our patients.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Scanning/filing Outpatient requisitions and results

  • Scanning/filing pathology requisitions and results

  • Update reference labs in the match queue daily

  • Attach reference lab results to patient charts if not crossing over electronically

  • Email, fax reference lab results to correct clinics, hospitals

  • Research delayed labs, missed labs by Intermountain Health (IH) & Precision Medical Labs (PML), and document any discrepancies or issues in the IH & PML missed labs spreadsheet (to be reviewed by Lab Manager monthly).

  • Document labs processed incorrectly by BMH into the spreadsheet (to be reviewed by the Lab Manager monthly)

  • Complete second checks on ordered labs

  • Receive IH & PML calls about reference labs

  • Email/fax reportable diseases to Infection Control (Cari Spillman)

  • Compile monthly reference lab problems for the Lab Director (Alex C.) and attend monthly meetings to discuss these issues and concerns with reference labs with the Lab Director and Lab Manager.

  • Report recurring incidents and/or trends with IH & PML to the Lab Manager and any high-risk incidents or incidents that affect patient safety/treatment to the Lab Manager immediately.

  • Investigate and write up Occurrence reports for reference lab issues and deliver to the Lab Manager

  • Tracking and Trending of issues related to reference lab test results/reporting.

  • Assist the Lab Manager with monthly reports as needed.

  • Research lab results for UNHS clinics, reference lab, or hospitals as requested.

  • Assist with phlebotomies as needed.

  • Compliance & Procedures:

    • Follow all laboratory procedures and corrective action protocols.

    • Adhere to HIPAA and confidentiality standards.

    • Be familiar with and comply with Blue Mountain Hospital policies, procedures, and protocols.

  • Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

    • High school diploma or equivalent.

    • Completion of phlebotomy training (in-house or formal).

  2. Professionalism:
