San Juan County Obstetrics
We Offer the Best Support for Parents During Labor, Delivery, & Postpartum Care
You and your newborn deserve the best possible care. That’s why Blue Mountain Hospital treats expectant mothers with personalized, compassionate care from expert obstetricians (OBs). These highly trained physicians and our support staff of registered nurses prioritize ensuring you have a pleasant, memorable labor, delivery, and post-birth experience. We are here to serve your needs as you welcome your new baby into the world.
Catering to Your Birth Needs
When you are an inpatient at our hospital in the Labor-Delivery-Recovery (LDR) suites, you can expect constant monitoring from a central location. Our hospital staff can monitor you throughout your stay and provide quick intervention if you experience any complications during this important time in your life.
Family and friends will be able to visit you with flexible visitation hours, and they can wait for the big moment in our comfortable waiting area. Reclining chairs are available for fathers as their partners give birth.
During your stay at Blue Mountain Hospital, we suggest mothers stay close to their babies once they are born rather than taking them to a nursery. Our medical team will help you feed, bathe, diaper, and care for your newborn while ensuring your comfort before you are ready to be discharged. Even after you leave the hospital, you can rely on our obstetrics team to answer any follow-up questions or concerns you may have.
Resources for New Mothers
There is no tell-all book on how to raise and take care of a child, but there are a lot of resources. Blue Mountain Hospital tries to give as many resources to new mothers and caregivers that we can to help make their transition easier. Not only are these resources on how to take care of your new bundle of joy, but also how mom can take care of herself too! Check out our resources here.
OB Nurses:
Sulane Knight, BSN CNO
I became a nurse in 2012. I love being able to help bring a new, precious life into the world. It is such an amazing experience. I enjoy teaching and coaching mothers through birth and being there for them in their times of need. OB is a very special work and I am honored to be a part of it.
Kellie Mills, RN DON
I became a nurse in 2017. One of the best things about being a labor and delivery nurse is witnessing the moment a new life enters the world. It never loses its magic. There’s this incredible energy in the room when parents see their baby for the first time, and being there to provide reassurance and care during such a life-changing moment is really special. Even on the toughest days, moments like those make it all feel worth it.
Angel Latham, BSN
I became a nurse in 2022. The babies! It is such an incredible thing to be apart of something as amazing as helping a mother bring new life into the world.
Debra Slade, RN
I became a nurse in 1989. Having a front-row seat to witness the miracle we call life. I love helping new moms and dads adjust to their new roles and challenges. Holding and caring for newborn babies is pretty awesome too!
Amy Winstead, RN
I became a nurse in 2016. I love seeing new parents’ faces when they meet their baby for the first time.
Jessica Walker, RN
I became a Nurse in 2023. Helping women (especially those who are having their first child) understand the labor process! Knowledge is power and I believe knowing how the body is functioning in labor and why we are doing certain interventions empowers women who are going through one of the hardest physical and emotional tasks. I am constantly amazed and inspired by women in labor.
