Job Description

The Surgical Clerk is responsible for performing the full range related activities in accordance with internal standards and guidelines and regulatory requirements. Responsible for providing administrative support to the nursing staff in the surgical department.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs administrative support duties including (but not limited to) meeting and greeting patients, staff, reps, service techs, and visitors, telephone/communications, escort services, hospitality assistance, and may schedule hospital services and follow-up visits
  • Answering phone calls and directing them to the appropriate staff member
  • Maintaining patient charts, including surgery request forms, H&P, and consent forms
  • Ensuring that all patient charts are updated and organized
  • Ordering and restocking supplies needed for the clerical side of the OR
  • Coordinating appointments, tests, and procedures for patients
  • Collaborating with other members of the OR team to ensure efficient and effective patient care
  • Maintaining a clean and organized work environment
  • Attend staff meetings, typing meeting notes, keeping temp logs, crash cart logs, etc. and send to appropriate personnel for filing
  • Support OR manager with data entry, charting, and gifting for patients who are being discharged
  • Perform related duties as required
  • Updates Med/Surg unit daily of OR schedule and as needed

Experience:

  • A successful candidate will possess one year of clerical, nursing assistant, MA or other patient care work experience. Including 6 months of which must have been in an operating room or surgical setting.
  • Sufficient education, training, and experience to perform the above tasks
  • OR any combination of education and experience that would demonstrate the capability to perform the duties of this position
