Wednesday, September 17, was a big day for Doctors Erin and Tyler Greene.
Not only was it the final day of work at the UNHS Dental Clinic in Monument Valley for the two Texas natives, but it was also their third wedding anniversary. They were honored with a special luncheon at Gouldings Lodge, recognizing the end of their two years of service to the residents of Monument Valley. The couple will now set up house keeping in Salt Lake City, where Erin will work in private practice and Tyler will work at a dental school and in private practice.
Tyler Greene is a native of Houston, Texas. He graduated from Baylor University in Waco, Texas with a Bachelor Degree in Biology. He later attended dental school at the University of Texas Health Science Center, in San Antonio. It was there he met Erin, a native of Waco, who got her Bachelors from the University of Texas in Austin. She said she just had to get out of Waco for a while. After graduation from Dental School and a wedding, the couple moved to Salt Lake City and fulfilled their one-year residency at the University of Utah.
They moved to San Juan County in 2012 and started working for Utah Navajo Health System, Inc. They both expressed their affection for the people of Monument Valley and the staff at the UNHS Monument Valley Clinic.
"It's bitter sweet to leave," Erin said. "It's been great and it's been hard. It's been happy and sad. I've really enjoyed working with Dr. Olsen, the UNHS Dental Director. He's such a great person. He's trying to get the dental program to be top notch, and he's done a great job. Working for him has been amazing.
"The clinic here is so nice. The patients are so nice, and yeah, we've had a wonderful time," she added. "Just being this remote has been difficult, being that far away from friends and family. But in general it's been very good."
Tyler said he's enjoyed working with the staff and making relationships with the people he's met. He said he also made a lot of dentures… explaining that between he and Erin they made between sixty and seventy sets of dentures with a grant the Monument Valley Clinic received. Neither is a Prosthodontist, but Tyler said they should be.
When asked how working together has been, Erin said it's been better than she would have expected.
"We've worked together and after three years we're still married," she laughed.
The couple said they like Salt Lake City, with it's walkable neighborhoods, good restaurants, the arts, the mountains; and they like the size of the city. Also, it's easier to visit family in Texas by getting on a plane in Salt Lake and flying, rather than driving the endless hours across the state of Texas to get from one city to another, Erin explained.
We wish the Greenes all the best in their new endeavors and we will miss them.
