Biography

Dr. Matthew Lyman grew up in Salt Lake City. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Russian Language and Literature from University of Utah and then attended A.T. Still University of Health Sciences in Kirksville, Missouri, graduating in 2003. He served an internship in Ft. Worth, Texas, an orthopedic surgery residency in Detroit, Michigan and a joint replacement fellowship in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Lyman received writing awards in residency and has authored articles and a book chapter, and has been in practice since 2008.

Prior to relocating to San Juan County, Dr. Lyman practiced in Davis County, Utah. He moved to San Juan County and joined the Blue Mountain Hospital staff in 2018. He treats a variety of conditions and provides orthopedic surgery for the extremities, including carpal tunnel release, arthroscopy of joints, repair of tendons and ligaments, fracture repair, joint replacement, care for various deformities and many others. For surgeries that need to be done at larger facilities, Dr. Lyman helps coordinate subspecialty care.

Although Dr. Lyman grew up in Salt Lake City, his father, Gary Lyman, is a native of Blanding. His grandparents are the late Lynn and Hazel Lyman. After high school Dr. Lyman served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in Russia and Latvia. Dr. Lyman plays the piano and in his spare time enjoys spending time with his family and exploring San Juan County
