BMH ER features new Telestroke technology to help stroke victims

Blue Mountain Hospital's 6-bed Emergency Room is equipped with the most up-to-date technology and a welltrained staff of Doctors, RN's and ER-Techs, who have a sterling track record of saving lives and treating the injured.

Our Emergency Room features a state-of-the-art Tele-Stroke machine that allows ER personnel to have direct contact with specialists at the University of Utah, in Salt Lake City. These specialists can then see, communicate with, and diagnose, a potential stroke patient via a direct television link. This TeleStroke technology allows our ER staff to determine whether a potential stroke patient needs to be treated, and/or transported to a different facility within the "Golden Hour." This is the time when stroke patients need to be diagnosed, begin receiving treatment, and be transported in order to ensure the highest possible chance of recovery.

Blue Mountain Hospital's ER also features a STEMI (ST Elevated Myocardial Infarctions) Hot Line that helps ER staff diagnose potential heart attack victims. With this technology, patients can be transported to a facility that offers a higher level of cardiovascular care within two hours. Many of these patients are transported to the San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington, New Mexico.

Blue Mountain Hospital also offers a ventilator for ER patients, who need respiratory assistance with cardiac, stroke or trauma emergencies. We utilize a number of valuable resources that help our patients when needed. ER personnel can utilize one of several air transport services, including Eagle Air Med, in Blanding; St. Mary's Medical Center, in Grand Junction, Colorado; University of Utah Life Flight, San Juan Regional Medical Center, i n Farmington, New Mexico and, most recently, Classic Lifeguard, from Moab.

Our RN's are trained in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). We have an inhouse ACLS instructor and in-house instructors for the Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC).

Our ER Nursing Manager, Georgia Black, and ER Tech Manager, Cari Spillman, have an exceptional staff of trained, skilled RN's and ER-Techs. Together with our staff of skilled Physicians, and the latest technology, they make our ER a top-notch medical facility for treating accident victims, and all types of emergency needs.
