Burdette Shumway recently completed a comprehensive, week-long training to become certified to perform maintenance and repairs on Blue Mountain Hospital's dialysis machines, using Gambro Phoenix System.
The training was held in Denver, Colorado, from July 12 - 18. He said the course was extremely focused to make sure those taking the class were knowledgeable enough about the machines to become certified to service them.
Burdette has worked for BMH three years, and his duties include working on hospital's Waste Disposal System, roof top air conditioning units, ice machines, and a few pieces of medical equipment. He also cares for much of the hospital's mechanical and structural needs.
"This was a tough course with a lot of studying and a test at end. The machines are very complicated. Basically, the training was to teach me how to find answers to problems, when the machines break down, and how to understand and do preventative maintenance and calibrations," Burdette explained. "Gambro technicians provide technical support and I communicate with them when I need assistance. The training also helped me learn how to can work with their technicians and understand what they talking about when discussing equipment problems over the phone," he added.
